The 9^th International Session on Human Rights 
and Culture of Peace Education
(November 29th – December 3rd, 1999)

The State University – Higher School of Economics, the Moscow School of Human Rights and the Office of the Commissioner on Human Rights in the Russian Federation held in Moscow the 9th International Session

"Culture of Peace, Human Rights –
Contents and Methods of Education"

(training for secondary schools teachers, higher schools professors, instructors on social sciences, lecturers, managers of educational institutions, NGOs representatives to prepare them for teaching human rights, civics, democracy and peace courses). Famous specialists in the sphere of law, political science, pedagogy, etc., representing different Russian and foreign organizations took part in the Session.

The following problems were discussed:

• civic education: experience of open societies – problems of Russia;
• international norms on human rights, the rights of the child, and mechanisms of their protection;
• human rights in the democratic and post-totalitarian states;
• human rights, culture of peace and civic education in the system of school and university education (aims, contents and methods of education and upbringing);
• human rights and conflicts: ways of resolution;
• human rights and economical development;
• novations in human rights doctrine.

During the Session more than 350 participants visited secondary schools and universities of Moscow, state and non-governmental organizations where they got acquainted with their work in these problems.
