The International Conference
"Human Rights and Culture of Peace on the Threshold of the 3rd Millennium"

Samara, June 9-12, 1998

The Administration of Samara Region, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the International Movement "Educators for Peace and Understanding", the Academy for Upgrading Professional Standards and Retraining of Educators of the Russian Federation, the Moscow School of Human Rights, the Samara Polyethnic Humanitarian Lyceum "Harmony of the World", the Samara State Pedagogical University, the Union of Lawyers of the Samara Region and the Samara UNESCO Centre "Culture of Peace" will carry out from June 9 till June 12, 1998 in Samara, one of the largest Russian cities located in the Central European part of the country (about 1,000 km south-east of Moscow) on the bank of the Volga, the International conference "Human rights and culture of peace on a threshold of the third millennium".

Sections of the Conference:

  1. Human rights in educational process;
  2. Practical activity in the field of human rights protection;
  3. Mass media and human rights.

 

Problematic of a conference:

  1. The rights of the child;
  2. Techniques of teaching courses on human rights in the system of education;
  3. Activities of international and foreign organisations concerning human rights education;
  4. The rights of bad-protected social groups of the population;
  5. The rights of women;
  6. Human rights in penitentiary system;
  7. Human rights in the Armed Forces;
  8. The rights of minorities;
  9. Human rights and culture of peace.

2.30pm-4.30pm Round Table Meetings with Participation of the Representative of the President of Russia in Samara Region, Deputies of the Province and City Parliaments, officials of administrative structures working with appeals of residents, lawyers, trade unions figures, journalists.

June 12, Friday

10.00am-1.30pm Round Table Meeting with Participation of Representatives of Samara Human Rights Movement Centres, NGOs (of women, soldiers' mothers, refugees, persons with disabilities, etc.), culture, education, science, ministers of religion)
1.30pm-2.30pm Lunch
2.30pm-4.30pm Final Meeting. Summing up. Adoption of the Resolution.
5.00pm Review Tour of Samara


The participation in the conference

Travel expenses are paid by participants. Expenses on accommodation, meal, organisation, publishing of theses and cultural programme are charged by organisers. The participants of the conference will receive appropriate certificates.

The theses of the reports are accepted till June 5, 1998 in volume of 1,5 pages of the typewritten text in 1,5 intervals. During the first day of the conference the texts of the reports will be accepted on a diskette. If you cannot take part in the work of the conference, you can send the theses before June 3 for publishing them in the collection of materials concerning the conference.
